WILLIAM ALLEN IS HOME
On January 12, 2022, Gov. Baker recommended commutation for Mr. Allen and fellow Brocktonian Thomas Koonce. They then moved on to step three of the commutation process – hearings before the Governor’s Council.
Second Chance Justice (SCJ), a campaign of Brockton Interfaith Community in partnership with Massachusetts Communities Action Network, kicked off 2021 with a campaign to help others see William Allen’s humanity and his accomplishments during 28 years of incarceration, raise awareness of his life without parole sentence, and ultimately bring about his liberation through commutation. Along the way, hundreds of Massachusetts residents joined in a letter writing campaign to the Governor urging him to take the action he did on January 12, 2022. Over time, this effort brought together faith congregations and students throughout the state as well as the New England Patriots coaches, staff, and players.
