Rev. David A. Lewis, Sr.
Pioneer Valley Project (PVP) Board Chair
I was born and raised in Springfield and lived here all of my life. While serving five years in the Massachusetts Department of Corrections, I established a relationship with God through His Son Jesus, The Christ. Since my release in 1998 I have been focused on serving God, my family and my community.
I am currently the Clinical Director and part owner of The African Diaspora Mental Health Association, an outpatient mental health clinic in Springfield. I also serve as an Associate Minister at The Mount Calvary Baptist Church and as Board Chair for Pioneer Valley Project.
The history and current misconduct and brutality by the Springfield Police Department on the residents of Springfield, specifically the African American community and other communities of color, goes against the shared values of our institutional members.
I’ve chosen to be involved with PVP in order to impact this crisis, because as a parent, business owner and minister to the individuals and families affected by this crisis, I am deeply aware of others’ brutal encounters with the police, some of which have led to the executing of unarmed African American and Latino young men.
It is important to tell the story of our organizing, so that we might prayerfully inspire and motivate people to be a part of the change they want to see in their own communities.
